Fractional CTO – Helping Businesses Build the Right Thing, the Right Way
From Biology to Business Tech
I started out in zoology, then pivoted into research and eventually tech. What began with tinkering on early PCs turned into a career helping businesses make smarter decisions about technology, product development, and growth. I’ve spent 20+ years working across startups and scale-ups, guiding teams and shaping digital products – all without needing to write a line of code.
Early Lessons in Tech, Leadership and Delivery
- I got my start in IT through a training scheme at a London council, where I learned the basics of programming and web development.
- My first real break came at a growing consultancy. With the help of a brilliant mentor, I learned how to lead projects and manage clients – and that even the most senior execs are just people.
- Later, at a national travel health provider, I helped replace ageing internal systems with a fully digital platform that transformed how clinics delivered care.
Building Startups the Hard Way (and Learning Fast)
- I’ve co-founded multiple startups – including a digital travel health platform and a COVID testing service – and scaled them from sketchy ideas to systems used by millions.
- Along the way, I learned how to lead remote teams, juggle compliance, manage developers, and deliver products under pressure.
- One of those startups was acquired by Boots, which taught me that you don’t need a huge team or perfect tech to make something valuable – just the right mix of focus, flexibility, and follow-through.
My Approach
I work with founders and teams who need clarity and momentum – not code.
My focus is on product strategy, tech leadership, and helping businesses make smarter decisions. I’m not here to build things myself. I’m here to make sure the right things get built, the right way.
Most of all, I keep it simple and human. You won’t get buzzwords or waffle – just clear thinking and solid support when you need it most.
